Winter Quarters

March 5-7, 2010

Oregon 4-H Center (west of Salem, Oregon)

Winter Quarters this year will include workshops for many facets of the NCWC. This year the 20th Maine Infantry will coordinate the classes and programs. Company commanders will be responsible for setting up skirmishes. The activity schedule is still under development.

The venue, Oregon 4-H Center, allows for multiple indoor work and display areas, as well as excellent fields for drill and skirmishing and miles of trails for tactical exercises. There is a seperate horse camp area with a tie-stall stable, a large roundpen for working horses, bunk houses (unheated- much like what they would have had during the war), seperate showers and toilets, and limited RV parking. There are several places for drill and where blank firing of all branches will be permitted, including some with gravel road access for artillery, and miles of trails for tactical exercises and horse activities. Pre-registration is required for camping and dining! See the options below.

Please note that only blank firing is allowed at this facility- there will be no live firing. The NCWC Board is looking to replace the live fire aspect at another venue later in the season.

For those who wish to stay overnight, both cottages and cabins are available:

COTTAGES: There are 5 heated cottages that sleep 16 each, for a total capacity to house up to 80 participants (four people per room in bunk beds- totalling sixteen people per cottage). 3 additional cottages have a living room with a couch, chair, microwave and small refrigerator for snacks. There is NO COOKING ALLOWED in or outside the cottages. Most cottages have two bathrooms (a few of them only have one), and all have shower and toilet facilities.

CABINS: There are 4 barracks-style cabins that are also heated with one large room and multiple bunk beds, however, in this case, the shower and toilet facilities are located in a nearby building. These cabins are more like the Camp Rilea barracks.
